Translated from Zh. Tekh. Fiz.; 42: No. 11, 2326-2333(Nov 1972). The operation of a coaxial plasma injector with a supplementary induction electric field produced by a single-turn coil near the gas input is investigated. For a sufficiently large supplementary field the basic discharge in the injector is uniform and symmetric, and the reproducibility of the plasmoid parameters is improved. Discharge symmetrization in the injector is accompanied by an increase in the total energy of the plasma flux as a result of the increase in the fast plasmoid energy. The supplementary field also reduces the number of high-energy impurity ions in the plasma. (auth)
