Corrosion-resistant zirconium alloys (in French)

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4411110

A zirconium-based alloy containing 0.40 to 1.20% (by weight) vanadium and 0.05 to 1% (by weight) copper is presented. The most important applications of this alloy concern nuclear reactor cores: structural elements, calander tubes, channel tubes, and tubes for the cladding of fuel elements, these tubes being in contact with water, steam- water mixtures, or superheated steam. The alloy remains free from corrosion during very long periods of exposure to superheated steam up to 500 deg C and can support temperatures in excess of 550 deg C for shorter periods of time. It is always more corrosion-resistant in steam at 400 deg C than the usual zircaloy 2 and 4 alloys. (FR)
