A spectrophotometric stydy was made of the reaction of Mo(VI) with 4- galloylpyrogallol (2.3,4,-3; 3; 4'5'-hexahydroxy benzophenone) in aqueous solution. The reactnt forms with Mo(VI) a yellow complex in acid medium (pH = 5.75 - 6.15). At an optimum pH of 5.6 and a wave length of 420 nm, Mo(VI) can be determined between the concentration limits of 1-20 mu g/cm/sup 3/. The molar extinction coefficient is 14554. The instability constant obtained by the method of the Job non-isomolar series is 2.42 x 10, and the combination ratio molybdenum/ reactant is 1/2. (auth)
