Effects of glutathione on mitotic delay induced by x irradiation in Ehrlich ascites tumor cells. II (in Japanese)
The radioprotective action of glutathione(GSH) was studied at the cytological level using the mitotic index of Ehrlich ascites tunnor cells. Glutathione 130 mg/mouse) was administered intraperitoneally 30 min and 3 and 6 hrs before irradiation with 400 rad. Glutathione accelerated the recovery of mitosis after irradiation. The action was most intense when it was administered 30 min before irradiation, followed by the administration 3 and 6 hrs before irradiation. Thirty minutes, 3 hrs, 6 hrs, and 9 hrs after irradiation with 400 rad, glutathione 130 mg/mouse) was administered intraperitoneally. When glutathione was administered after irradiation, the reappearance of mitotic cells was inhibited. Such inhibition was most intense when it was given 3 hrs after irradiation. Changes of mitotic index after administration of glutathione 10, 5, 10, 20, 30, and 40 mg/mouse) alone were observed. The mitotic index in the groups with the administration 20 to 40 mg of glutathione showed a slight decrease until 6 hrs after administration, and then showed a marked increase 12 to 15 hrs after administration. On the basis of these data, the mechanisms of the radioprotective action of glutathione are discussed. (auth)
