Translated from Prib. Tekh. Eksp.; 16: No. 3, 62-65(1973). Two versions of a three-electrode track spark chamber fabricated from PPU-305 foam polyurethane and metallized polyethyleneterephthalate (lavsan) film with an interelectrode gap of 2 x 175 mm and working-section dimensions of 850 x 850 mm were tested. The electrodes of the first chamber were wire, while the electrodes of the second were fabnicated from lavsan film 100 mu thick which was metallized on both sides with a layer 0.1 mu thick. Without the gas purification system both chambers are operational for a day after filling. The service life of the chamber with the electrodes made of metallized lavsan is limited due to the damage to the metal coating caused by the action of the spark discharge. (auth)
