Investigations on incorporation and enhancement of excretion of radioisotopes and internal dosimetry (in German)

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4403843

The influence of duration of incorporation, age, and sex on the Y/Sr- activity relation in the femur of rats was investigated after i.v. injection of / sup 90/Sr and /sup 90/Y (10 mu Ci /sup 90/Sr--/sup 90/Y into rats. After an incorporation of 1 to 156 d the animals were sacrificed and the femur removed. After puncturing the distal femur, LiF-thermoluminescent dosemeters were introduced and exposed up to 6 d. After the removal of the detectors the femur was prepared for determination of the /sup 90/Sr concentration. The energy dose rate was determined in rads/d by means of dosemeters, with the calibration being done in a /sup 90/Sr-solution of known activity concentration. A /sup 90/Sr source with which the dosemeters were irradiated under constant geometry was calibrated according to the defined relation between energy dose and the record of the measuring device. The energy dose rate decreased with increasing incorpcration time. The influence of sex was indicated by the 20% lower energy dose rate of males. This difference decreased up to the 32nd dose day.
