Process of tetraoxan polymerization (in Japanese)
Tetraoxan is poiymerized to 60 to 140 deg C. in liquid or solid phase and in the presence of radical -producing substances that are peroxide and/or the other conrpound by high yield. The peroxide is selected from the group consisting of inorganic peroxides such as ozone and hydrogen peroxide; organic peroxides such as benzoyl peroxide, lauroyl peroxide, acetyl peroxide and di-tert- butyl peroxide; and air irradiated by radiation and UV-ray. The compound is a free-radical-producing substance selected from the group, besides the peroxides, consisting of azo-bis-nitriles, azocompounds, diazo-compounds, nitric esters, nitrous esters, hyponitrous esters, hypohalogenous esters, esters of peracids, sulfides, etc. These radical-producing substances may be added at a concentration between 0.0001 and 10%. The present process is characterized in that the polymerization initiator, which may not polymerize trioxan, polymerizcs tetraoxan, and that the polymerization yield niay attain to 100% by hydrogen peroxide of cheap radical producing substance, and that the polymerization yield is greatly increased by radiation before the polymerization. In examples, 1 g of tetraoxan mixed with 0.02% of benzoyl peroxide solved in n-hexane is introduced into a glass ampoule. It is polymerized in the water bath for 24 hr at 110 deg C. The polynmer of white crystal is obtained by the yield of 19%. In the case of radiation by /sup 60/Co gamma rays at a dose of 1 x 10/sup 5/ rads at -78 deg C before t he poymerization, the yield attains to 40%. (JA)
