Contribution to the study of the mechanism of labelling human serum albumin (HSA) with technetium-99m

Journal Article · · Int. J. Appl. Radiat. Isotop., v. 24, no. 11, pp. 621-626

The labelling reaction using ferric chloride and ascorbic acid with the / sup 99m/Tc eluate was investigated. Ion exchange chrom tography was used to separate the reaction components at acidic and alkaline pH. /sup 99m/Tc was identified as an anion which was not complexed with ascorbic acid. Coprecipitation was used to differentiate between pertechnetate and a reduced form of technetium. Only the reduced technetium showed coprecipitation with ferrous/ ferric hydroxide. Coprecipitation was favored at elevated pH, suggesting that a hydrated /sup 99m/Tc oxide was formed. It is believed that this labels the albumin. (auth)
