From 3rd symposium on sharing of computer programs and technology in nuclear medicine; Miami, Florida, USA (16 Jun 1973). In proceedings of third symposium on sharing of computer programs and technology in nuclear medicine. The standardized CAMAC interfacing system for computer acquisition and control systems has been used in a nuclear medicine laboratory to acquire data from three types of scintigraphic systems. The implementation of the CAMAC crate controller is described. Also discussed are the methods and systems configurations used for collection of data from a multiple static probe system, a computer driven scanner, and a dual probe scanner not under computer control. The CAMAC system when compared to a dedicated scanner interface is found to entail a higher initial dollar investment but results in a much more versatile and more easily expanded system. The CAMAC standards also allow the duplication of systems by laboratories without the investments in time and money that result from attempts to adapt the specialized interfaces. (auth)
