Under provisions of Senate Resolution 135, the Committee on Public Works contracted with the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) for an evaluation and review of current data on the health effects of major air pollutants. Twenty-two scientists reviewed the biological effects of the four major classes of pollutants before the NAS Conference on Health Effects of Air Pollutants, Oct. 3- 5, 1973. Included here are summaries of data on carbon monoxide; sulfur oxides and particulates; nitrogen oxides; hydrocarbons and oxidant; and mutagenesis and carcinogenesis. (MCW)
