National fuels and energy conservation act of 1973. Report on the senate committee on commerce, Ninety-Third Congress, First Session, November 16, 1973

The purpose of the bill is to declare a national policy of conserving energy resources through more efficient conversion and use, to make energy conservation an integral part of all programs of the federal government, and to encourage an energy conservation ethic among American industry and the consuming public. Agency comments on Section 13 dealing with the authorization of a research program for an alternative propulsion system for automotive vehlcles in commerce are published. Several provisions of the bill are intended to improve the energy efficiency of major household appliances, central heating and air conditioning systems, automobiles and other forms of transportation, while at the same time creating consumer awareness regarding the potential for saving energy and money by more informed purchase decisions and habits. These provisions require disclosure of estimated annual operating costs of major energy-consuming products. (MCW)
