Laves phases in ternary systems rare earth metals--transition metals of the IV period--aluminum (in Russian)

By x-ray structural methods, alloys of the ternary system R-T--Al were investigated along the quasibinary cross section RAl/sub 2/RT/sub 2/, where R is the rare earth metals and T is the transition metals of the IV period. A series of new ternary Laves phases were established with structures of the MgZn/sub 2/ type: RFeAL (R = Sc, Y, Sm, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, and Tm), YCoAl, and YNi/sub 1.5/ Al/sub 0.5/. On the basis of the results and literature data, conclusions are drawn on the conditions for the formation of ternary Laves phases in the R-T-Al system. (tr-auth)
