TECHNETIUM COMPOUNDS WITH THE MgZn$sub 2$ STRUCTURE

Studies were made on the occurrence of Laves phases upon alloying Tc with several lanthanide elements as well as Y. ATc/sub 2/ compounds were prepared by arc melting on a water-cooled copper hearth. Rare earth elements, whose purity was 99% or better, were Ce, Pr, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, and Lu. The powder patterns of the compounds investigated were indexed as the MgZn/sub 2/- type structure and are tabulated. Powder patterns taken from alloys corresponding to CeTc/sub 2/ and PrTc/sub 2/ did not reveal the lines of a Laves- type phase. (P.C.H.)
