Search for a $gamma$-branch from shape isomers in $sup 236$U and $sup 238$Np

A search for gamma -decay from the shape isomer in /sup 236/U (t1/2 = 130 ns) and in /sup 238/Np (hypothetical) was performed in the reactions /sup 235/ U(d,p) /sup 236/U and /sup 238/U(p,n)/sup 238/Np by the use of a pulsed beam. In both c ases there are possible candidates, but no deftnite gamma -decay was established. The experiments yield limtts on production cross sections, which are higher than the theoretical estimates.
