Formation of chelates of radioactive Zr and Y atoms by irradiating with 660 MeV protons the suspensions of Zr and Nb powders in the solutions of some beta-diketones

The chemical behavior of Zr/sup x/ and Y/sup x/atoms formed by irradiating the suspensions of Zr and Nb metal powders in acetylacetone, benzoylacetone, trifluoroacetylacetone, and hexafluoroacetylacetone by 660-MeV protons is studied. The yield of labelled beta-diketonate increases as one progresses from non-fluorinated to fluorinated compounds. The formation of the chemical forms of radioactive atoms as a function of the mechanism of their passage from the irradiated metal to beta-diketone solution has been discussed. (auth)
