HTGR: status in the U. S. and future unique potential

From international nuclear industries fair; Basel, Switzerland (16 Oct 1972). The development of the HTGR program leading to acceptance of the system by U. S. utilities is reviewed. Reference is made to the operational performance of Peach Bottom I HTGR and to the construction of the 330 MW(e) Fort St. Vrain station. Features of the large commercial HTGR now being marketed in the US are outlined. The future potential of the HTGR system including the direct cycle gas turbine and the process heat application is discussed. (auth)
