THE INCORPORATION OF Fe$sup 59$ INTO THE HEMATOPOIETIC SYSTEM OF THE IRRADIATED RAT (in French)

Journal Article · · Arch. intern. physiol. biochim.
OSTI ID:4348347

The effect of radiation on the incorporation of iron into the hematopoietic system was determined by injecting white male rats, who had received 600 r whole-body irradiation, with Fe/sup 59/. The animals were killed 2, 6, 12, 20, 36, and 48 hours after the irradiation. The amounts of iron in the marrow of the tibia and femur, liver, whole blood, plasma, and red cells were measured and the results are tabulated. The results showed that after 12 hours the iron in the irradiated rat is accumulated more in the marrow, whereas in the control the iron has been released to the circulatory system. (J.S.R.)
