Conditions are reported for the preparation of NbI/sub 5/, the preparation and sublimation of NbI/sub 4/ by thermal decomposition of the pentaiodide, and the subsequent disproportionation to NbI/sub 3/. Properties and powder patterns are given for the three iodides. (auth)
