The characteristics of inherent safety of the AEG-Boiling Water Reactor are complemented by means of a multitude of protective systems. These are harmonized in a way which yields equal protection with respect to all situations under consideration. Operating experiences, large scale experiments and systems analysis provide the basis for further improvements. (auth)
