Preparation of ultrapure UF$sub 3$ (in German)

High-purity UO/sub 2/ or U/sub 3/O/sub 8/ (from Merck company) was converted to UF/sub 4/ by putting it in a nickel container for reaction with a puriified gaseous mixture of HF (99.99%) and H/sub 2/ for four hours at a temperature of 600-700 deg C. The UF/sub 4/ was then reduced to UF/sub 3/ in the same device at 1020-1050 ( plus or minus 20) deg C by changing the gas flow. (HK/ CB) (GE)
