Title: INTERIM EVALUATION OF THE FLUOROX PROCESS FOR UF$sub 4$ AND UF$sub 6$ MANUFACTURE

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4356114

The Fluorox Process for the conversion of UNH to UF/sub 4/ and UF/sub 6/ , utilizing moving-bed techniques, is outlined. The Process involves the following steps: denitration of UNH to UO/sub 3/; pelleting of UO/sub 3/ with recycled UO/sub 2/F/sub 2/; reduction hydrofluorination to UF/sub 4/; and oxidation of UF/sub 4/ to UF/sub 6/ product and UO/sub 2/F/sub 2/ intermediate. Advantages of the Fluorox Process include substitution of HF for T/sub 2/, reduction in HF requirements, and reduction in plant-size and mechanical complexity. (C.W.H.)
