RADIOELECTRIC EQUIPMENT IN THE SEARCH FOR RADIOACTIVE ORES (in French)

Journal Article · · Revue Generale de l'Electricite
OSTI ID:4328271
The different methods used in prospecting the content in soil of those radioactive materials capable of forming a basis for production on the industrial scale of atomic energy are surveyed. After some basic generalities concerning the radiatlons from radioactive substances and those of their properties related to their detection, the authors review the types of apparatus currently used at various stages in the search for radioactlve ores: GeigerMueller counters, scintillation counters, radioprospection lnstruments. They then describe the fields in which these lnstruments are used, particularly those of radioprospectlon, concerning surface prospection, the exploration of drill-holes of various depths, and minlng. The article concludes with consideratlon on the analysis (determlnation of uranlum content) and the sorting of ores accordlng to thelr degree of radioactivity. (auth)
