  1. Argonne National Laboratory (ANL), Argonne, IL (United States)

From third Health Physics Society midyear topical symposium; Los Angeles, California, USA (29 Jan 1969). See CONF-690103P3. Argonne National Laboratory's organization for handling emergencies is designed to provide positive action directed at the protection of personnel and the minimization of property damage. The general plan for handling emergencies places the responsibility for evaluation and control of incidents in the hands of the local Area Emergency Supervisor. Responsibilities of both the local Area Emergency Supervisors and the Laboratory Emergency Coordinator are outlined. Notification of emergency response units and emergency supervisors is accomplished through the utilization of the Group Alerting System. Initial notification of a criticality is tied into the Group Alerting System. A summary of responsibilities of normally responding forces is presented. Preplanned actions of various response groups for specific types of emergencies are outlined.
