Short courses in emergency monitoring for safety and medical personnel

From third Health Physics Society midyear topical symposium; Los Angeles, California, USA (29 Jan 1969). See CONF-690103P3. The health physics group at Purdue has established two short courses for acquainting safety and medical personnel with the fundamentals of radiation safety and the handling of radiation emergencies. One course, Basic Radiation Safety for Firefighting and Police Personnel, has been presented to all members of the University Fire and Police Department. It includes the broad topics of the technical aspects of Radiation Safety (definitions, types of hazards, principles of protection) and the practical aspects of Radiation Safety (University regulations, local hazards, use of monitoring equipment). The second course, Basic Radiation Safety for Medical Personnel,'' has been presented to doctors, nurses, and technicians of the University Health Service. In addition to topics covered in the fire and police course, medical aspects of radiation accidents and emergency preplanning for medical personnel are included in this course. (auth)
