After a study of the changes in retention in potassium bromate that appear after irradiation at different fluxes, the reason for these changes was investigated. Radioactive bromine is partially oxidized (bromite or hypobromite). Changes in chemical behavior at different fluxes of irradiation are tentatively assigned to changes in the concentration of these recoil species. (tr-auth)
