Biphenyl-2,2',4,4',6,6' -d/sub 6/ has been synthesized. Aniline hydrobromide undergoes an exchange reaction with D/sub 2/O to yield aniline- N,N,2,4,6-d/sub 5/ hydrobromide-d which is converted to bromobenzene-2,4,6-d/sub 3/ by the Sandmeyer reaction. The resulting bromobenzene-2,4,6-d/sub 3/ is coupled in the presence of C/sub 2/H/sub 5/Br and CoCl/sub 2/ to form biphenyl-d/ sub 6/. (auth)
