Circular polarization and $gamma$--$gamma$ angular correlation measurements in the $sup 39$K(n,$gamma$$)$$sup 40$K reaction

Circular polarization measurements of the gamma -radiation from polarized neutron capture combined with gamma - gamma angular correlation measurements in the /sup 39/K(n, gamma )/sup 40/K reaction lead to J/sup pi / = 2/su p -/ assignments to the E/sub x/ = 0.80, 2.05 and 2.42 MeV states of /sup 40/ K, and to spin restrictions for the states at E/sub x/ = 2.10, 3.44 and 4.25 MeV. Multipole mixing ratios for the gamma -rays which de-excite these levels were determined. (auth)
