TEST OF APPR TYPE CONTROL ROD IN THE MTR

It has been proposed that one of the Materials Testing Reactor (MTR) Cd rods be replaced with an Army Package Power Reactor (APPR) type rod, consisting of enriched B/sup 10/ dispersed in electrolytic Fe and clad with 304L type stainless steel. The change in worth of the control rod as a function of operation time for both the MTR Cd rod and the proposed APPR B rod is determined in terms of the change in thermal neutron attenuation with burnup of the absorber atoms.
