Determination of vanadium in petroleum and related products by activation analysis (in Portuguese)

Vanadium at level of parts per million, in petroleum fractions and in silica alumina cracking catalyst was determined by activation analysis. Instrumental determination of vanadium in petroleum was made after 15 sec of irradiation and tae activity of /sup 52/V was measured by means of a NaI(Tl) scintillation detector. Varadium in petroleum fractlons was also determined using instrumental reactor-neutron activation analysis. The counting of activities was performed by means of a high resolution Ge(Li) gamma-ray spectrometer. The irradiation time was 5 min. For irradiation, crude and petroleum fractions samples were sealed in polyethylene containers. Radiochemical separation of vanadium in cracking catalyst was made by solvent extraction after 5 min of irradiation. Vanadium was extracted into chloroform with N-bermzoyl-N-phenylhydroxilamine. A thermal neutron flux of about 5 x 10/ sup 12/ n/cm/sup 2/ sec was used for all irradiations. According to the results obtained, the aralytical method of neutron activation is a specific, sensitive and precise method of aralysis and adequate for routine analysis. (INIS)
