Determination of Aluminum by Double Activation Analysis (in Japanese)

Double neutron activation analysis was studied and applied to the determination of aluminum. The sample was irradiated for 3 min at a neutron flux of 3 x 10/sup 11/ n/cm/sup 2//sec.After t he addition of aluminum carrier to the irradiated sample, radiochemically pure Al/sup 28/ was separated as aluminum oxinate from the sample by extraction with 5 ml of benzene. gamma - Ray spectrum of Al/sup 28/ was measured by a pulse height analyzer and the height of photopeak at 1.78 Mev of Al/sup 28/ was determined. The chemical yield of the purification step was determined by the re-irradiation of separated aluminum- oxinate solution for 10 sec and by comparing the activity of Al/sup 28/ with that of standard reference sample. Content of aluminum in the sample was determine by the activity of Al/sup 28/ which was produced by the first irradiation and corrected for the chemical yield.
