A large Wilson cloud chamber with an internal volume of more than a cubic meter and an illuminated volume of 120 x 114 x 50 cm/sup 3/ is described. The chamber may contain several plates up to a total weight of some metric tons. The characteristics of the apparatus are of such a kind, that the chamber can be employed either in cosmic ray research or with accelerators. The chambers associated equipment was planned to work also with overcompression. (auth)
