THE STRUCTURE AND PROTECTIVE ACTION OF CHEMICAL SUBSTANCES USED IN PROTECTION AGAINST THE ACTION OF IONIZING RADIATION (in Polish)

Journal Article · · Nukleonika (Poland)
OSTI ID:4311389
The protective action of different chemical substances against ionizing radiations is described. The correlation between chemical structure and protection effect is discussed. It is pointed out that the substances, which protect mammals could be considered as belonging to one group of compounds of defined structure. The role of protective action of anoxia, competition by free radical removal and the substitution of sulfhydryl subsiances easily inactivated by irradiation, which are most important for living organism is considered as possible modes of action in the mechanism of radiation protection by chemicals protectors.
