Polarization of D,D neutrons for incidence energies about 400 keV

The polarization of neutrons produced in the D(d,n) /sup 3/He reaction was measured at deuteron bombarding energies of 300, 350, 400, and 450 keV. All the measurements were performed at a neutron emission angle of 50 deg in the laboratory system. The target was a Zr layer 15 mg/cm/sup 2/ thick on tungsten backing with a D-to-Zr ratio of 1.8. A helium polarimeter was employed for measuring the left-- right asymmetry induced by elastic scattering of /sup 4/He. The results of the present experiment indicate polarization values near
