Effects of 9 well-known antitumor compounds, 14 allyl compounds, and x irradation on the respiration and glycolysis of ascites-tumor cells were investigated and compared with the growth-inhibitory effects on Ehrlich solid tumor. The present in vitro study indicated that all the antitumor agents do not show the same effect on the glycolysis and respiration of ascites-tumor cells. Inhibition, stimulation, and no effect were observed in both glycolysis and respiration. Thus, there was no general correlation between the effect of a compound on tissue metabolism and its effect on tumor growth. (auth)
