Comparison of mutagenic effectiveness and efficiency of gamma rays, EMS, NMU, and NG

Journal Article · · Indian J. Genet. Plant Breed., v. 32, no. 3, pp. 360-367

The mutagenic effectiveness of gamma rays, EMS, nitrosomethyl urea (NMU), and nitrosoguanidine (NG) was compared on seeds of Triticum dumrum Desf. cultivar N. P. 404. Although all mutagens produced similar seedling growth inhibition, the highest frequency of chlorophyll mutations was in NMU treatment. No variants were observed in NG treatment. Gamma rays and EMS were next to NMU treatment for frequency of chlorophyll mutations. (ERB)
