The recovery of induced mutations depends upon, among various other factors, the genetic architecture of the organism, mutagens used, and method of handling the M/sub 1/ generation. It is possible to unnderstand the extent of genetic diploidization of a polyploid species from its response to a wide range of mutagens. The mutagens used were gamma rays, EMS, NMU, and NG. (auth)
