THE ABSOLUTE $gamma$-RAY EFFICIENCIES OF IONIZATION CHAMBERS (in Russian)

Journal Article · · Atomnaya Energ.
OSTI ID:4301056
The absolute number of electrons was found by determining the total spectrum of all secondary electrons knocked from a 1.5 mm thick aluminum plate by Co/sup 60/ gamma rays (h nu = 1.17 and 1.33 Mev) and comparing it to the measured beta spectra of sources of known activity under the same conditions. The angular distributron of electrons in the range 0 to 180 deg was determined for each 100-kev energy interval. Thc graphic presentation of electron angular distributrons at 300 to 400 and 900 to 1000 kev is shown. Calculations showed that for the chamber investigated, the number of ion pairs formed in 1 sec in 1 cm/sup 3/is (4.8 L plus or minus 0.5) x 10/sup 6/. (R.V.J.)
