An attempt is made to establish a relation between two methods for determining the resolving power of a spectrometer: the method using the curve of n( nu ) pulse distribution for the photopeak from Co/sup 60/ gamma rays and determining the relation of the half-width of the photopeak to its abscissa R = ( DELTA nu / nu ) 100% or the method of comparing photopeaks E/sub 1/ = 1.17 Mev and E/sub 2/ = 1.33 Mev for Co/sup 60/ gamma rays with the minimum depth between them. The relation between the ratio of the peak E/sub 2/= 1.33 Mev to the ordinate of the minimum curve n( nu ) for Co/sup 60/ and the R/sub C/sup o/ resolution for 1.33 Mev gamma rays was found. The calculations did not consider the background and the drop in the Compton continuum near the minimum between photopeaks. (R.V.J.)
