SECONDARY ELECTRON SPECTRA AND THE SENSITIVITIES OF COUNTERS TO $gamma$- RAYS (in Russian)

Journal Article · · Atomnaya Energ.
OSTI ID:4279953
The energy distributions of secondary electrons knocked out by Cs/sup 137/(h nu = 662 kev) and Co/sup 60/ (h nu = 1171 and 1331 kev) from an aluminum half cylinder, 20 mm in diameter and 1.5 mm wall thickness, at 0, 15, 30 were measured. By summing the electron emission in various directrons, a picture was obtained of the angular distribution in the perpendicular plane forming a half cylinder. The absolute value of the counter efficiency for one of the gamma emitters was found by determining the absolute number of secondary electrons produced in the irradiation of half cylinders by Co/sup 60/ gamma r-ays. This was achieved by comparing the beta spectra with W/sup 185/, Y/sup 91/, and P/ sup 32/ placed on a fine plate of similar shape and dimensions as the target. (R.V.J.)
