EFFECTS OF A SINGLE LETHAL DOSE OF TOTAL-BODY CO$sup 60$ GAMMA IRRADIATION ON CALVES

Journal Article · · Radiation Research
DOI:https://doi.org/10.2307/3570798· OSTI ID:4300989

The investigation contains clinical, body-weight, temperature, mortality, hematology, and pathology data on the response of the calf (Bos taurus) to a single lethal dose of 600 r of total-body gamma -irradiation from Co/sup 60/ in a 4 pi exposure field. The dose measured in air at the point subsequently occupied by the midline of the animal's body mass, represents the LD/ sub 40(9)/ or the LD/sub 100(14) for male calves from 3 to 5 months old. The mean survival time for 23 animals maintained until spontaneous death was 9.9 days. The clinical syndrome is described in detail. (C.H.)
