HISTOCHEMICAL INVESTIGATION OF THE VARIATION OF THE GLYCOGEN CONTENT OF THE LIVER OF RATS EXPOSED TO A FATAL DOSE OF WHOLE-BODY X RADIATION (in Italian)

The behavior of the glycogen content of the liver of rats lrradiated wlth a lethal dose of x rays (800 r) over the whole body was studied by a histochemical method. One hour after irradiatlon glycogenolysis takes place. This phenomenon increases after two hours and remains on this level as long as 24 hours after irradiation. Then glycogenosynthesls is resumed by liver cells and after 96 hours the glycogen content of the liver is practically restored to normal. Later (after 168 hours) glycogenolysis develops, histologically appearing similar to that of the first hours after irradiatlon. (auth)
