EFFECT OF TOTAL X-RAY IRRADIATION ON THE CONTENT OF GLYCOGEN IN THE RAT LIVER

In control rats starved for 24 hours, the subcutaneous injection of glucose restores the initial glycogen content in the liver. In starved rats totally irradiated with a dose of 1000 r there is an inhibition of assimilation of glucose. Immediately after irradiation, and also after 2, 4, and 96 hours, the glyocgen content in the liver in most rats after glucose injection averaged 70% lower than it did in the control animals. (auth)
