THE DETERMINATION OF Sr$sup 90$ AND OTHER $beta$-EMITTERS IN HUMAN BEINGS FROM EXTERNAL MEASUREMENTS OF THE BREMSSTRAHLUNG

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4293843
Applications of bremsstrahlung measurements for in vivo localization of beta-emitting radioisotopes following administration to human patients are discussed. A scintillation spectrometer technique was used for counting. The gross distribution of phosphorus-32 tracers in the body was followed by manual scanning. It was possible to detect a significant uptake of phosphorus-32 in small sections of the skeleton and in organs where metastatic tumor lesions were suspected. The possibility of using the method for quantitative determinations of small amounts of strontium-90 in human beings and the precision of the measurements are discussed. (C.H.)
