$pi$$sup +$-MESONIC DECAY OF A HYPERFRAGMENT

Journal Article · · Physical Review (U.S.) Superseded in part by Phys. Rev. A, Phys. Rev. B: Solid State, Phys. Rev. C, and Phys. Rev. D
The pi /sup +/-mesonic decay of a hyperfragment has been observed. The hyperfragment was produced in a negative K-meson star in emulsion, and it decayed into two visible particles, a pi /sup +/-meson and a recoil. It can be interpreted ad /sub LAMBDA /Li/sup 7/ yields n + pi + H/sup 6/, or /sub LAMBDA /Be/sup 7/ yields n + pi /sup +/ + n + pi /sup 0/. Since the LAMBDA particle decays only into p + pi /sup -/ and n + pi /sup 0/, the appearance of pi /sup +/-meson from this hyperfragment is explained as due to the charge exchange of a pi /sup 0/-meson from the LAMBDA decay with the residual nucleus of the hyperfragment.
