A SYSTEMATIC INVESTIGATION OF $pi$ to the minus -MESONIC DECAYING HYPERFRAGMENTS PRODUCED BY K$sup -$ MESONS (in German)

Journal Article · · Nuclear Phys.

A stack of nuclear emulsions (Ilford G5), exposed to the 300-Mev/c K/sup -/ beam of the Berkeley Bevatron was scanned systematically for hyperfragments. Thirty-six hyperfragments decaying by the pi --mesonic mode were found. Twenty- four of these hyperfragments could be analyzed uniquely in the sense of the criteria given. Binding energies were obtained for LAMBDA H/sup 3/, LAMBDA H/ sup 4/, LAMBDA H/sup 4/, LAMBDA He/sup 5/, LAMBDA Li/sup 8/, and LAMBDA Li/ sup 9/. Angular, energy, and momentum distributions of the LAMBDA He/sup 5/ decay products were studied and compared with the corresponding theoretical distributions given by Byers and Cottingham. The mean lifetime for LAMBDA H/sup 4/ hypedragments was calculated. Finally, the nuclear capture of a sigma - hyperon is described, from which a hydrogen nucleus (very probably a proton) and a pi -meson were emitted. (auth)
