The sample is ignited to U/sub 3/O/sub 8/ and mixed with NaF. Charges of the mixture are excited in a d-c arc, and the NaF distils accompanied by the Al. The arc is aligned with a large quartz spectrograph, and the resultant spectra are evaluated by means of a non-recording microphotometer. (auth)
