S>Reported data suggest that the postirradiation treatment of UV and x- irradiated S. typhimurium with highly polymerized isologous deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) may prevent the death induced by radiation. In irradiated cultures treated with isologous DNA the number of colony forming survivors was increased, whereas in untreated control cultures this number continuously decreases. The recovery reflected the reestablishment of cell division mechanism impaired by radiation. This effect of highly polymerized isologous DNA can not be considered as a nutritional one, since it has not been observed with isologous DNA digests, or with lower molecular weight DNA derivatives, or with heterologous DNA.
