Isotopic Exchange Reaction Between Diiodofluorescein and Potassium Iodide; OBMEN IODA MEZHDU DIIODFLUORESTSEINOM I IODISTYM KALIEM

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4264424
>The kinetics of the isotopic exchange of the iodine ion between diiodofluorescein (IFI) and KI was studied. Methanol was used as a solvent. Diiodofluorescein labelled with I/sup 131/ is required for medical purposes to localize brain tumors. One may suppose that two atoms of iodine in the molecule of diiodofluorescein are chemically equivalent, as demonstrated by the results obtained. The exchange rate was evaluated for different concentrations and different temperatures. The exchange probably follows the reaction of the second order, and the activation enengy of this exchange was found to be 9650 plus or minus 150 cal/mole. The carbon-iodine bond is strongly polarized, as shown by the relatively short half-time and small activation energy. This method can be used for preparing diiodofluorescein labelled with I/sup 131/.
