A REEVALUATION OF RADIATION INJURY ($beta$ RAYS) OF THE SKIN BY A DIRECT METHOD APPROACH

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4262765

Preliminary results are reported from in vivo and in vitro studies on the liberation in the skin of various substances following exposure to beta radiation from a strontium-90 source. Substances studied included various enzyme systems such as proteolytic, respiratory, carbohydrate, and esterase, and the effect of phosphorus-32 turnover on protein, nucleic acid, lipid, and carbohydrate metabolism. The direct effects of beta radiation on skins and chemical or biologic substances which inhibit these effects, were also studied. (C.H.)
