HIGH ENERGY IRRADIATION OF THE VACUUM ENVELOPE OF THE 7 GEV HARWELL SYNCHROTRON

Orbit calculations are made to estimate the probable distribution of high-energy irradiation of the upper and lower walls of ihe vacuum vessel of the Harwell Synchrotron. The irradiation con6ists of 7 Bev protons scattered out of the beam after passage ihrough various targets. It is shown that on ihe average ii will take several years to accumulaie a damaging dose. However, more rapid damage could result over a small region from the prolonged use of small targets of low atomic number placed on the inside of the machine. (auth)
